Nanny pay calculator: weekly, monthly, and annual wages

Enter an agreed hourly rate and hours actually worked in a typical week. This example applies time-and-a-half after 40 hours and shows wages before deductions, employer taxes, and benefits.

US federal planning example · Updated October 29, 2026 · By Paypr

Scope: a covered, nonexempt worker with one regular hourly rate and the same schedule each paid week. State or local requirements, live-in arrangements, bonuses, multiple rates, and paid time off can change the calculation. Check the overtime guide before using this for payroll.

40 hours 30 minutes = 40.5 hours. Add daily start and end times with the weekly timesheet builder. Do not include paid leave as hours actually worked. If leave weeks, guaranteed-hours payments, or your schedule differ, calculate those amounts separately. The default rate is an illustration, not a market-rate recommendation.

How the calculation works

Weekly wages = (up to 40 hours × regular hourly rate) + (hours over 40 × regular hourly rate × 1.5). Annual wages = weekly wages × the number of paid weeks entered. Monthly average = annual wages ÷ 12. Calculate each workweek separately when actual hours vary.

Example: $25 per hour for a 46-hour week

ItemCalculationAmount
Regular pay40 × $25.00$1,000.00
Overtime pay6 × $37.50$225.00
Weekly gross wages$1,000 + $225$1,225.00
Annual wages, 52 identical weeks$1,225 × 52$63,700.00
Monthly average$63,700 ÷ 12$5,308.33

Figures are rounded for display at the end of each calculation. Actual payroll rounding and adjustments may differ. Four weekly paydays and five weekly paydays produce different calendar-month totals.

What to add to a household budget

This result is gross wages, not take-home pay or total employer cost. Account separately for employer taxes, payroll-service fees, insurance, benefits, reimbursements, bonuses, and backup care. Avoid adding paid leave twice if it is already included in your annual wage budget.

Start with the 2026 employer FICA estimator for one federal component. It does not calculate all employment taxes. If you have not agreed on a rate, use the nanny pay guide to evaluate local evidence and duties.

Keep actual hours after planning the budget

A typical-week estimate will not record a late finish or a payment. Use the free weekly timesheet and payment log, or follow our weekly tracking routine.
